12 Things Dogs Can Teach Us About Love

For anyone who’s ever been in love, you know that it is an unpredictable, incredible, and unforgettable adventure–which kinda sounds like having a dog in your life, if you ask me. A dog can teach us lots of things about ourself, and love is something they can show us through their gentle spirit and kind heart. Think you know a lot about love? You’ll know more once that special dog comes into your world and changes you forever.

12. Love Is Unconditional

Dogs will love you, no matter what, through any circumstances. They don’t care if you lost your job or can’t seem to lose those last ten pounds… in their eyes, you’re perfect just the way you are despite what you’re going through.

11. Love is Patient

Housebreaking. Destroying the yard. Chewing your favorite pair of shoes. Do we really need to elaborate?? Didn’t think so.

1o. Love Hits You When You Least Expect it

Maybe you stumbled upon the dog by chance, or you knew you were looking for one and then the perfect dog for you came along. Even if you were already curious to see what life would be like with a dog, it still hits you like a ton of bricks–but ones that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

9. Love Will Make You Feel Whole

“You complete me.” We all remember that, right? Thought so.

8. Love Changes You–For The Better

I don’t care how much of a badass you think you are, the love of a dog will soften you on the inside. And that’s because love brings out the very best in you.

7. Love is Understanding

To love someone, including a dog, you have to learn to understand their needs and accept them for who they are.

6. Love Is Hard Work

A dog is not an effortless task, and neither is love.

5. You Can’t Choose Who You Love

I’m a big believer in love at first sight, and for anyone who’s ever fell in love with their dog right off the bat, you know exactly what I mean by that. Boom, it’s just that quick. Smitten.

4. Sometimes in Love, You Have To Be Willing To Compromise

Okay, okay. Maybe you were being too much of a stickler. Like when you said you would never allow your dog on your furniture, or on your bed, or pretty much anywhere else you mentally deemed a no-dog zone. You have to be willing to compromise when you’re in love.

3. Experiences Aren’t the Same Unless You Have Someone You Love to Share it With

It doesn’t matter how great your life is, if you don’t have someone special to share it with, then things just aren’t the same. Or even day to day activities are just better when your dog is there… because after all, they love you for bringing them along!

2. Love is About Putting Others Before Yourself

Love is about sacrifice and putting the needs of others before your own. I’d say most dog moms and dads know that’s no biggie once that sweet pup comes in and steals your heart.

1.  True Love Lasts Forever

And ever and ever, as long as you both shall live. Don’t ever let someone tell you that true love isn’t out there, and in the meantime, let your dog show you the ropes till that special person comes along… and one that your canine companion approves of, of course!
