All dogs bark, but some just seem to have much more to say than others. Whether they’re naturally talkative or just have a propensity to become vocal when bored and under-stimulated, some breeds are just noisier than others. Although there’s an exception to every rule, generally speaking, if you’re looking for a breed that will stay quiet, steer clear from these guys.

#1 – Beagle

The Beagle is a small- to medium-sized scent hound known for its outstanding ability to track rabbit, hare and other small game. They make excellent family companions but are known for being very loud barkers and howlers.

#2 – Siberian Husky

The Husky is known in the dog world as being one of the most talkative dog breeds of all. Whether it’s a howl, a bark, singing–or a combination–the Husky is one highly vocal canine. If you have one of these in your home, then you know exactly what it means to have a talkative dog.

#3 – West Highland White Terrier

The West Highland White Terrier, or Westie, is a small terrier from Scotland. Like any terrier, they can be stubborn, difficult to train, and prone to nuisance barking. When training is started early, however, they can make great active companions.

#4 – Miniature Schnauzer

The Miniature Schnauzer is the smallest of the Schnauzers and considered to be a terrier, although it varies greatly in temperament. They are known for excessive barking, which makes them excellent watchdogs, but can be troublesome.

#5 – Cairn Terrier

The Cairn Terrier is a feisty, active dog that needs regular exercise and mental stimulation to remain a manageable roommate. Because of their temperament, they can become nuisance barkers.
