3 Signs Your Pit Bull Needs More Exercise

| Published on October 29, 2016

Pit Bulls are very diverse, and therefore the amount of exercise your individual Pittie needs may be very different from your friend’s Pittie. Some are lean, tall and very athletic – able to easily go for hours. Others are squarer, smaller and may tire more quickly. But the build of your dog doesn’t guarantee they need less or more exercise. There are lots of factors including age and medical issues that also play a part in your Pittie’s exercise requirements. The best thing is to listen to your dog. They will tell you if they are getting enough activity. The following are 3 signs your Pit Bull needs more exercise.

#1 – Destructive Behavior

If your Pittie is chewing your purse, getting into the garbage, and doing other “bad deeds,” he may need more exercise. As long as they aren’t linked to separation anxiety, these behaviors are done partially out of boredom and because your dog has excess energy. Mixing more exercise with training will help curb these behaviors.

#2 – Whining

If your Pit Bull is pacing your house whining (“yodeling” might be a better word), this can be a sign of stress. But it can also be a sign that your Pittie has too much energy and doesn’t know what do with it. This can also turn into nuisance barking, where your Pit Bull barks at every little noise he hears simply because it gives him something to do.

#3 – Pestering You

Although some Pitties are naturally “clingy,” a Pit Bull with extra energy may solicit you to doing something with him. This may include following you around, pawing at you, or even pushing themselves into your lap and in your face as if to say, “Hello, I am here, let’s go do something.”
