According to Dog Food Advisor, who received an email from the company regarding the contamination, “We are troubled by the covert nature and lack of transparency exhibited by both companies associated with this particular event. Obtaining confirmation and details about this recall were especially challenging.”

Apparently, the companies originally only notified PetSmart and distribution centers.” At the time of this writing, nothing has been posted about this recall on the KONG brand website.

A company spokesperson from JAKKS stated the only a small percentage of products we’re affected by the mold, and that while it was caught by their distribution center, some products may have been delivered to PetSmart. They also state that any product can be returned to PetSmart for a full refund.

JAKKS Pacific can be contacted at 1-877-875-2557, Monday- Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm pacific. Kong can be reached at 303-216-2626.
