Cop’s Body Cam Captures How They Rescued A Dog Hanging From A Car In A Store’s Parking Lot

| Published on July 20, 2016

In Arkansas City Kansas, police quickly came to the rescue of a dog that they found hanging from a car in a store’s parking lot.

The incident happened in July 8 when Sergeant Jason Legleiter and Police Officer Wade Hammond responded to shoplifting call in a Wal-Mart store. After the two secured the suspect in their patrol vehicle, a Wal-Mart employee alerted them about a dog who was hanging from his leash outside a parked truck. The two quickly went to the said vehicle and found that the dog appeared to have jumped out the truck’s open window and have hung himself.

The dog was motionless and he appeared to be dead. But Sergeant Legleiter acted quickly, pulled out his patrol knife, and cut the dog down from his leash. Officer Hammond tended to the dog who was still unresponsive. He removed the dog’s collar to let him breathe and he applied pressure to the dog’s side.

Moments later, the dog started to show signs of life. He gradually became more responsive until he was able to recover and stand on his own.

Arkansas City Police Department posted the story on their Facebook Page. For those who are wondering what happened that led to this incident and what the dog’s owners have to say and/or if they were charged, this is the statement the police posted on Facebook:

“There have been many comments on this post asking if the owner(s) of the dog were charged. While we understand your concerns we cannot release all of the related facts of this case. We can say that all of the information was gathered and it will be up to the prosecutor to decide if any charges will be filed. This post was made to demonstrate to our community what caring and compassionate officers we have in Ark City. Thank you to all the people who have posted such supportive and caring words for our officers doing a great job. Rest assured that if charges are warranted, they will be filed. For now we would just like to focus on the officers and the great work they did.”

Thanks to these police officers, the dog was saved. Their quick-thinking and immediate action saved this dog’s life.
