Millie lives with her best friend, and she loves him very dearly. So much so that when he had to leave for an extended business trip and she was left with his daughter, Carolann, she was beyond upset.
To say that Millie was devastated might be an understatement. Carolann has told Metro UK that Millie has been looking all over for her dad and doesn’t seem to understand that he’s not coming back just yet. “Whenever someone came into the house she seemed disappointed that it wasn’t him. I caught her sneaking around to the front of the house to sniff his car a couple of times too.”
It’s been a tough time for Millie.
Nobody likes to see a sad dog, so Carolann tried what she could to cheer the pup up. She gave Millie extra attention with treats and walks, and even tried putting her dad on speakerphone so Millie could hear his voice, but she only cried at him and went to bed.
When everything else failed, Carolann was struck with a genius idea. She printed out and laminated photos of her dad’s face and put them on two of her sister’s old toys. Suddenly, Millie’s entire attitude changed.
The toys are now living in Millie’s bed with her. Carolann says she carries them around and takes them outside, but hasn’t torn them to shreds the way she has all her other toys.
And when her dad returns? “We may just keep the toys as his replacement permanently,” says Carolann. “They’re a lot more quiet.” Millie may have something to say about that.
