K-9 officers contribute to the protection and improvement of our communities in a very real way. These brave dogs train alongside their human counterparts to help strengthen the neighborhoods they work in…it’s pretty incredible stuff. Robin is a Belgian Malinois who works as a K-9 officer in Monterey Park, California. While chasing down a suspect, Robin was stung over 50 times by a large swarm of bees. The venom soon caused her organs to start shutting down, and the brave girl was very close to losing her life.

Thankfully, organizations exist whose main objective is to help animals who need blood donations. Hemopet is one of those organizations. Located in Garden Grove, California, the non-profit animal blood bank that also specializes in Greyhound rescue and adoption. Hemopet is the first program of its kind in the United States, providing an estimated 40 percent of all the dog blood and plasma throughout the country, according to an organization representative.

Because of the work Hemopet does, Robin, and others like her, are able to survive otherwise life threatening experiences by receiving vital blood transfusions and emergency care.

Robin is expected to make a full recovery and return to work as a K-9 officer. Such amazing work that organizations like Hemopet do. For more information on Hemopet and the need for dog blood donations, click here!
