On May 21, a volunteer dog walker for Henry County Humane Society spotted a small crate outside of an unfinished shelter currently being built. The new shelter is across the street from their older facility but since it isn’t yet occupied, nobody really knows how long the crate was there. Inside the tiny crate was a Labradoodle named Buddy, according to a note he had with him. It seems that Buddy was loved and cared for until recently when his family decided he had outgrown the apartment they lived in.

The note contained little information, stating:

“Hi, my name is Buddy. I have all my shots. I took flea medication today. I have outgrown the apartment I live in and need a new home with a big yard to run in and am AMAZING with children. It is very hard for me to leave a home where I am very loved and cherished, but I hope I can bring joy to my new family.”

Unfortunately, Buddy’s previous owners didn’t leave any veterinary records so there’s no way to tell if he is up to date on his vaccinations.

“Even if they’d crossed out their name and left his medical records, we’d have more information. Now we’re left with no history,” shelter manager Tracy Diehl told Geneso Republic. “When they abandoned him, they did Buddy a huge injustice. He was crammed into a little cage and scared to death,” she added.

It’s unknown how old Buddy is or where he came from, but he’s become quite the internet sensation. After the shelter posted his picture on Facebook asking for more information about his previous life, the adoption applications started flowing in.

In a new Facebook post, the shelter states they hope that the attention Buddy received will also be distributed to the other pets at the facility needing homes.

“While excitement of saving that Labradoodle’s life is a full steam, maybe those who do not get him, will take a moment to check out the others. Listen to their stories. And find that those other dogs are souls searching as well,” it reads. “Yep, Buddy has a sad story and one that I wish was just not common at all. But it’s not. No, not one bit. Every single animal here at the shelter has a story. And not a one is a good story. Sure, they are here, and we are vetting them, and caring for them and feeding them. And no matter how sad it gets, we are dedicated to make sure they either find the perfect home, or they live out a fantastic life, even if it’s with us.”

Buddy will undoubtedly be adopted out to the perfect family after everything is said and done, as the shelter has received so many applications they stopped accepting them. Now, it’s time to focus on the other homeless pets that need loving, forever families.

Update:

According to the humane society’s Facebook page, Buddy is now in his forever home! We’re so glad that he’s finally found his forever family!
