Missing Iditarod Dog Found Alive After Journeying More Than 100 Miles

| Published on April 26, 2015

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is the toughest sled dog race on Earth. This annual long-distance sled dog race covers 1000 miles of rough terrain from snow-covered mountain ranges, deep forests, and frozen rivers. The musher and his pack of sled dogs have to brave below zero temperatures to travel from Anchorage to Nome.

So when an Iditarod Husky who was missing for a month was found alive, her owner was overjoyed! The Husky named Sarabi, was dropped by her musher midway through the race because of her sore shoulder. The musher left Sarabi at a checkpoint, but the dog escaped and went missing for a month. Sarabi wasn’t done running her race, and it turns out she has been running around for more than 100 miles. Watch the video below and learn how this dog journeyed 150 miles and got reunited with her owner!

I’m so glad Sarabi is okay! After being missing for a month, I believe this dog deserves a lot of hugs and some cuddling!

It seems like Sarabi wanted to finish the race. And as her musher said, she will one day be given a chance to finish it.
