UPDATE: Baron The Disfigured Rottie Has Been Adopted!

| Published on February 24, 2017

Updated 3/1/2017:

Dog lovers across the world were shocked and appalled by the heartbreaking photos of a mutilated Detroit Rottweiler named Baron. The first bit of good news came last week when veterinarians declared him healthy and ready to be adopted. Today’s update is even better – Baron has found his forever home!

Just this afternoon the Michigan Humane Society posted a joyful message to Facebook, complete with photos of the new, happy family!

Baron and his parents look like they are already smitten with each other! We’re wishing this sweet, resilient boy joy and comfort for the rest of his days. He’s certainly earned it.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the person(s) who committed the horribly violent crimes against this innocent dog. Michigan Humane Society’s cruelty investigators urge anyone with information to call their tip line at 313-872-3401.

Original Post:

In January, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) received a call from a concerned citizen in Detroit who reported a stray dog that appeared to be suffering. When rescuers arrived on the scene, they were shocked to see how severe the dog’s injuries really were.

The Rottweiler had been completely maimed with his ears, nose, and tail sliced off. Even more disturbingly, it appeared that someone had done this to the poor animal intentionally.

You’ll see this dog’s resilient disposition in the video below:

The pup was named Baron, and as his story spread, his triumphant spirit touched the hearts of dog lovers around the world. In addition to sympathy, they were infuriated that any human would put an innocent creature through such horrors. Desperate to help, donors began showing their support for Baron’s recovery by funding his surgery and medical bills.

What’s more, another fund was set up in order to help find the pup’s evil abuser(s) and bring them to justice. The reward for information leading to a suspect is now at a whopping $40,000. If you have any information in this case, contact the MHS hotline now at 313-872-3401.

With worldwide support, Barron had reconstructive surgery on February 8th. Thankfully, the 2 1/2 hour procedure was a success.

“His nasal passage is now covered and protected and his tail was shortened and sutured,” reported the MHS Facebook page. “Our veterinary team reports that he came through with flying colors, and is resting quietly while he recovers.”

After a couple weeks of healing, Baron is finally ready for the next and best chapter of his life: living in a loving, caring forever home! According to Click On Detroit, he’s been cleared for adoption.

While his profile is not yet posted on the MHS adoption page, you can contact them by clicking here.

This pup, with his unbreakable spirit, deserves to be spoiled for the rest of his days. Thanks to the caring folks at MHS, he’s begun to learn what it’s like to be cherished and appreciated. Despite all he’s been through, he still knows how to love, and deserves to be loved (tenfold!) in return.

Share this story to help Baron find the perfect forever home with an incredible family!
