Everyone loves puppies, and they have the ability to bring spread joy even in the saddest of times. Earlier this week, Diesel, a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed in the line of duty, sparing the lives of 5 Police Nationale officers during a terrorist raid. As a way to show their respects, the country of Russia is giving a seven month old German Shepherd puppy to France, as a way to honor Diesel and the nation for all the pain they’ve endured since the Paris attacks on November 13th.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs made the decision to send the puppy, named “Dobrynya” after a popular Russian folk hero, to show their respects to France. Elena Alekseeva, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said:

“The puppy will be transferred to France to show solidarity with the French people and their police in the fight against terrorism.”

Although Dobrynya is only a puppy with big shoes to fill, Russian officials are hoping that she will grow to be an honorary member of the French Police when her time comes.
