She Was Shot And Abandoned, But This 3-Legged Dog Is As Happy As Ever–And Needs A Home!

| Published on May 21, 2016

When Lake County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services in Florida picked up a young stray, they knew she was injured but had no idea the extent of her injuries.

Tellulah, a black Lab mix estimated to be about 7 months old, was found in April with an injured leg and scrapes near her mouth. At first, they thought that she was hit by a car; it appeared that her leg was broken, and the scrapes were the result of road rash.

When Pet Rescue By Judy founder Judy Sarullo saw Telullah’s picture on the shelter’s Facebook page, she could see that this pup was in pain. Sarullo went to rescue the injured puppy, and brought her right to the vet. There, they discovered that Telullah was suffering from much more than a broken leg.

“The vet found the bullet had actually gone in at the bottom of the leg and traveled up to the shoulder,” Sarullo said. “It shattered the shoulder joint, so it wasn’t something they could fix. They had to amputate the leg,” Sarullo explained to the Orlando Sentinel.

On top of that, the wound was very infected. Tellulah was underweight at 28 pounds, and had hookworms and roundworms. The article explains that the pup was in shock by the time Sarullo rescued her.

But there’s good news! Now a month later, Telullah is a healthy, happy, 3-legged wonder. She has tons of energy and loves playing with friends, whether people or pooches. In the news story, Sarullo says that this pup is “the sweetest thing ever.”

It’s no wonder that Telullah earned the title of Homeless Pet of the Month! Click here to watch the Orlando Sentinel news segment on this sweetheart.
