Maya might look like a regular Siberian Husky at first glance, but she’s just a little bit unique. She suffers from a congenital birth defect that left her with no paws and developmental issues in her hips. Barely able to stand for more than a few moments, it seemed like Maya was destined for a life without walking – if any life at all. But when she was spotted by an adopter looking for a new puppy, she got a miraculous chance at life.

Kit was looking for a new puppy to add to her home in Thailand when she found Maya available on a shelter’s Facebook page. She knew this special puppy was meant for her. She knew that challenges would come as Maya grew up with her abnormalities, but the two would get through it together. Maya was still a happy puppy that needed a forever home.

Although it was tough in the beginning, Maya is now a happy member of the family that gets around in her wheelchair without any issue at all. She has a puppy brother named Mamon, and the two of them run around and play for hours. They are the perfect match despite Maya’s unique physical structure.

Without people like Kit, dogs like Maya might not find a second chance at life. Many dogs born with congenital deformities are never adopted, facing humane euthanasia even as young puppies. But these dogs can often grow to live happy, healthy lives – even to the extent of being fully functional. Most dogs don’t even know they have a disability, so treat them with kindness and they will reward you with a lifetime of unconditional love.
