Toddler Without Feet Gets Puppy Without A Paw

| Published on May 3, 2015

Have you heard of the saying that goes “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.”? It must be because friends have so much in common with each other. Their similarities somehow makes their bond stronger. And that happens not just with our human friends, but with our canine friends too.

That’s why this little girl and this puppy became instant besties. Sapphyre Johnson is missing both of her feet. When her mom was pregnant, they went to have an ultrasound where they were told that their baby girl might be missing fingers and toes. They don’t know what caused this. When Sapphyre was born, she only had two toes on each foot. And when she turned one, the toes were amputated so they could fit prosthetics for her.

The white German Shepherd pup named Lt. Dan, was born without a paw. Karen Riddle, the original owner of Lt. Dan, was told by other breeders to put the puppy down. But she never considered the idea. Instead, she thought that this special dog needs someone who’s also special; someone who could appreciate a specially sweet, furry friend. So she decided to call Shriner’s Hospital, where Sapphyre has been a patient since she was three months old.

When Sapphyre’s mom showed her the picture of Lt. Dan, she immediately said, “That’s my puppy! He’s just like me!” They knew that Sapphyre and Lt. Dan were meant to be friends!

Lt. Dan will definitely bring smiles to Sapphyre and her family. And not just that, he will help Sapphyre make friends and explain her disability to other kids.

I can tell that these two are gonna be the best of friends! They look so sweet and adorable together!
