Bedtime behaviors that changed suddenly- waking up extremely early in the AM

Our two dogs Jovie and Luna have been sleeping in the bedroom with us and have historically been very quiet- only waking when an alarm goes off in the morning. Now they are waking up extremely early- 3-4am whining and ready to start the day. What can we do to correct this new behavior? No other routine has been altered, and they are getting exercise. Jovie will wake first, and get the other going. We have tried kenneling Jovie who wakes at any sort of rustle from the bed (turning over, pulling the blankets up) in the living room , and Luna will pace throughout the night anxiously. I don’t want to kennel Luna as well because she already has to be kenneled during the day due to destructive behavior when unsupervised. Jovie is able to roam about the house during the day. Any advice would be appreciated!

You don’t say how large the dogs are, but if they’re small and really are “pals”, maybe kenneling them together at night would work. Sounds like dog boredom to me. Distructive behavior during day is due to boredom and that’s the only reason. How about real bones to chew on (like the ones available at WalMart) or from a reputable pet store (NOT PetSmart which is not reputable). I have 2 very active dogs 1 yr old and I give them a raw bone and that takes care of them for several hours plus I can give them what is called a “Bull Stick” which I get from Costco (and they’re big so keep them occupied for maybe hr or 2). Maybe some type of toy that you can hide treats in will occupy the dog. Since we kennel both our dogs every night in separate kennels next to each other in garage, I don’t have your problem.
