Bully refuses to walk sometimes, I've had to carry him to get him home before.

Sometimes my guy gets interested in something, or just doesn’t want to continue, I’ve tried training tips, positive reinforcement, alternate leashes/harnesses, and everything else in the book. Sometimes he can be convinced to move on with treats every ten steps until he stops again, but I worry maybe he is figuring out if he stops, he could get a treat for continuing, which will indirectly lead to more stopping. How do I work on this? Bullies are so stubborn, but it’s also kinda cute.

My late bull terrier, Coco, did exactly the same thing. I understand your frustration. We went to a professional trainer. She said it was like I was dragging an anchor, the class laughed and thought it was so funny to watch! We thought she hated walks and was being bull headed, every time she would stop and lay down on the neighbor’s lawn and that was it (she always picked the most lush lawn). Until we moved. She must have had very sensitive feet. Our new house backed on to green parkland with manicured baseball diamonds etc. Then she loved to walk. Couldn’t get enough of it. She didn’t want any part of sidewalks or roads or paths, she only liked to walk on nice soft dark green healthy fescue!

This might not be much help to you, but it may give you some insight as to why your dog refuses.

By the way, Coco was a red and white, just like your dog! Beautiful! Miss that girl!

my bully is the same.. He doesn’t like leaving the back garden at all and then will reluctantly walk on the pavement. I have now come to the conclusion that like Deb and Bills late Coco he has sensative paws because he doesn’t have a problem walking on grass or softer ground. I am considering getting him protective boots for when we have to walk on harder ground. I do agree with you tho it is kind of cute when they just sit there looking at you and refusing, I am known in our area as the lady with the dog that doesn’t walk.

check his feet, if you notice probles use tea tree creme, it helps with mine.
If that is not the case i usualy unleash her and say “I am going home, bye!”.. in less than 10 seconds she comes running after me and we do not have any more problems then (she does that usualy if she stays in day care with my family members).

I’ve had the same issue with 2 of mine. I think its a breed trait haha or at least the stubborness part. My current bull terrier hates to walk going anywhere and will walk behind me extra slow. However the moment we switched directions to go back home he goes out in front and pulls his way home trotting the whole time.
