My mommy knew the time was drawing near for me to leave her. I had hung on to be with her through her chemo, radiation, snd surgery. She had another surgery coming, but I just didn’t think I could make it. I was a spoiled pup. My mommy talked to me all of the time, fixed me boiled chicken, and tried any and everything to hide my medicine-the usual-cheese, peanut butter. The not so usual-hummus, mashed potatoes, meat balls. My mommy slept with me on the floor the night before I had to leave. Her and my daddy had to leave that morning. My grandpa had died and it was the day of his funeral. When my mommy got home, she came and laid with me, held my hand and sobbed. My daddy and sister came too awhile later. I couldn’t get up, but I still wagged my tail, happy to know they would be with me for my final journey. My hospice vet arrived at my house and everyone talked about me (best dog ever, rescued at 9 months old, lived a great life) and my condition. I was dying and wouldn’t get better. There was nothing that would help me. It was time. The hospice vet told my mommy that she had never seen a dog live as long as I had with my disease and told her what wonderful care she had taken of me. My mommy held my hand and kissed me as we said good bye.
