Like a good mommy I do take my Dog (Kai) out to go to the bathroom outside and to go check the mail and go for walks. Well during the day there are always the neighborhood kids here who see my baby and they want to run over and pet her. I am single just me and my boyfriend no children in our house yet. So my baby is not used to children so when the neighborhood kids see her they run to her and she gets over excited then scared cause they start screaming and yelling and surrounding us. I am so scared she is going to bit them or scratch them and then I will have to deal with a upset parent. What do I do?

Kids are noisy, active and unpredictable. Lots of dogs, especially the smaller ones, don’t like to have them around. Don’t be afraid of telling the kids that Kai is nervous, that she needs quiet or she might bite. Hopefully all the kids would need is a bit of instruction on how to be around dogs, but if not it might be safer to just carry her when the kids try to come around. Good luck – my chihuahua has the same issue!

Definitely explain to the kids what’s going on. A lot of kids, especially younger ones, just aren’t taught doggie etiquette, especially about small ones. Educate where possible!
In my opinion, I would keep taking your fur kid to the park, to allowed stores (like most Lowe’s!), anywhere where she can meet people. My rescue had to learn to trust people of all varieties, and the best thing I ever did for his learning and growing was taking him places. I put a harness on him and just kept talking to him whenever we went anywhere and just meet people that were willing- just get him out and about. It terrrified him at first- everything did, but now Duke LOVES getting in the car and getting absolutely anywhere.
I’d say get your doggie out of her comfort zone, don’t pick her up too much, don’t overdo it. Just go slow, and teach her at her pace. You can do it! It’s very worth it.

I think the kids being loud and unpredictable can scare your dog – especially if they’re running towards her. While I do think it’s important for Kai to socialize, maybe you should explain to the kids to take it a little slow next time, just Kai can warm up to them. After enough time around the kids, maybe she’ll be the one to run towards them 🙂
