Adopt a Golden Birmingham (AGB) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to finding safe, loving, lifelong homes for Golden Retrievers. No Golden Retriever will ever be turned away regardless of medical needs or age. Founded in 2011, AGB has rescued over 500 dogs. AGB relies solely on donations for its income and 100% of donations go toward the rescue of the dogs AGB helps. Adopt a Golden Birmingham (Alabama) is a 501(c)3 organization.

In addition to rescuing native Golden Retrievers, it also rescues Golden Retrievers across the globe! Since 2015, AGB has been rescuing what it affectionately deems “Turkey Dogs” from Istanbul, Turkey. Golden Retrievers were once highly prized pets in Turkey. However, as their popularity increased, owners didn’t find them unique anymore. The dogs were abandoned, or left to starve and ultimately die. Since AGB began rescuing these dogs in 2015, it has received over 40. The group was inspired by its sister organization, Adopt a Golden Atlanta, who began rescuing the Turkey Dogs a few months before Birmingham. Every Golden Retriever is adopted into a loving, permanent home.

At the beginning of March, AGB welcomed another TWELVE Golden Retrievers to the United States! All seven males and five females are doing wonderfully and are eagerly awaiting adoption! Until then, they are each living with foster families in Birmingham and surrounding cities.
