Hi all –
I think I’ve hit information overload. Please tell me what kind of dog food you prefer to feed and why you like/chose it.

Hi RowdyDog!
I really like VeRus’ dog foods. I have a very, very itchy dog – or she WAS itchy before I started feeding her VeRus’ OptiCoat formula. She used to have to stop to scratch about ever 2 steps. Now she almost never scratches. So that’s the beginning of why I like this food.
Here are som other reasons:
The food doesn’t stink. When I opened the sample bag, there was no icky stink of old dried up chicken parts or greasy smell. It simply smelled fresh.
A HUMAN actually responded to my inquiries!
They have a non-profit that helps fund the training of rescue dogs for Veterans w/PTSD!
They have NEVER had a recall in the 20-some-odd years of making dog food.
Their website is great.
Okay – I can go on & on but I’ll stop there.
Go check out their website & fill out the contact form. http://www.veruspetfoods.comAttachments:

I use Purina, its cheap and my dog somehow likes it.
But I’m searching for a better food.

Hi Luke,
One thing about cheap food is that it goes through your dog faster than good dog food – i.e. you’ll get more poop from cheaper dog food. Purina was the standard for so long but now that we’re better educated, we know that their formulas aren’t the greatest.
VeRUS, the food mine are eating now, isn’t cheap on the surface. I recently ordered a 30 lb bag for $45. BUT! Because of the formula and ingredients, my dogs’ bodies are able to convert more of this food to energy, etc., and less goes straight to poop. Does my big dog still give me big poops? Yes. But it no longer looks like a heard of water buffalo wandered through to leave landmines.
If you go to the VeRUS pet foods website & fill out a contact form, they’ll send you samples. It’s free and you get a response from a live person in the US. -

I made my dog’s food for a while in an effort to save money. I have since decided that it’s just as economical – if not more – and at least as healthy for my dogs to eat a premium dog food. I chose VeRUS over a few others because it has a good kibble size/shape for both my dogs (one big, one little), it doesn’t stink, it isn’t greasy, my dogs do really, really well on it, and VeRUS has never had a recall in more than 20 years in business. As a company, they seem to be innovative and on top of nutritional needs and standards. AND! They have a non-profit organization that benefits veterans and helps rescue dogs to serve as service dogs. I haven’t found anything about VeRUS I DON’T like.

I just switch to a new dog food thanks to a review I’ve read, and also found out that purina is not good :(. I’d like to go on but maybe its better if someone here just reads it.dogstuffexpert.com

Hi RowdyDog,
I prefer being creative in giving good to my dogs.
They just wouldn’t eat after some time, maybe because they are craving for new taste and flavor.
I have observed that beef chunks would really get them to have a good appetite.
I mix it with dog pellets that are beef and vegetable flavor. 🙂 -

When we got our new rescue, I decided to get more informed about dog foods (starting right here). After looking at many many bags of many brands of dog food, I have started buying “Beyond”, which is a Purina product – but much better nutritionally than regular old “Dog Chow”. A 15 lb bag has cost me between $23 & $30 at a regularly grocery store.
Scooby seems to love it, and I feel better about giving him some healthier food.
