Young Havanese with early cataracts that appeared quickly

Hello,
I was wondering if there are any other Havanese owners who have a Havanese that got cataracts in both eyes early. Our dog, 61/2 years old, got his first cataract this past summer and it just seemed to appear all of a sudden. Three weeks ago we notived a shadow on his other eye and we took him to an dog opthamologist. He got lots of tests Our dog is a canidate for cataract surgery for both eyes and the doctor said about 90% success rate with healthy dogs (which he is considered). We are debating theey surgery as he is part of the family and his lifespan is 14-16 years. Also, it is just breaking my heart that he was chasing his favorite ball weeks ago. Any thoughts or comments with a similar experience?
