| Published on May 8, 2018

Big, fluffy, short-haired, small… when it comes to dogs, we love them all!

Whether you live in a small space, want a portable friend, or you just can’t resist a tiny canine, there’s something so endearing about petite pooches with big personalities! With information gathered from the American Kennel Club, below is a list of 10-pound-and-under pups that could make a perfect addition to your family.

Don’t forget to check out your local shelters and rescues for your favorite breed, or even a miniature mutt that needs a home!

Do you have a pint-sized pup that wasn’t mentioned on this list? Tell us in the comments below!

1. Affenpinscher

Known for their monkey-like looks, this “famously funny” pup proves that humor is not determined by size! Weighing between 7 and 10 pounds, this scruffy terrier can be a bit stubborn, yet they’re outgoing little entertainers.

2. Toy Fox Terrier

Toy Fox Terriers are the epitome of “tiny,” weighing in at just 3.5 to 7 pounds! These pups are small spitfires who also enjoy lots of time on their loved one’s laps. With relatively high energy, this breed would be a great addition to an active family.

3. Silky Terrier

These toy 10-pounders are known for — you guessed it! — their glossy, silky coats. But don’t let their beauty fool you! They’re still feisty and full of personality, maintaining many characteristics typical of terriers.

4. Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are easy to recognize with blue-and-tan-colored coats that are smooth and shiny. These 7-pound pups may be small, but they’re willful. However, this doesn’t make them any less lovable and they can certainly be cuddle bugs — when they’re in the mood for it!

5. Chihuahua

These sassy sweethearts are a perfect example of big personalities coming in small packages! Rarely weighing more than 6 pounds, these pooches are especially portable. But don’t forget: just because they fit in a purse doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy playing, walking, and socializing just like any other dog!

6. Brussels Griffon

Coming in at 8-10 pounds, these bearded beauties have multi-dimensional personalities and immeasurable loyalty. Well-socialized Brussels Griffons can make great pets for anyone searching for a companion to accompany them around town.

7. American Eskimo (Toy)

If you want a bundle of fluff in a petite package, a toy-sized Eskie may be the perfect choice! In addition to their luxurious coats, these pups receive top marks for being eager to please and exceedingly outgoing.

8. Maltese

Maltese pups usually weigh 7 pounds or less, making them wonderful companions for anyone who wants a miniature pal. This ancient breed snuggled their way into the hearts of royalty, and are still known for their sweet, docile nature.

9. Pomeranian

Growing to a petite 3 to 7 pounds, itty-bitty Pomeranians are fluffy balls of spirited energy. Because of their size and not-over-the-top exercise needs, these little lapdogs are a great choice for big-city apartment dwellers.

10. Papillon

Although they only weight about 5-10 pounds, these pups love everything that any larger dog would, like playing, agility, and walks. Papillons tend to be versatile and adaptable as well, thriving in different temperatures and home settings.

11. Miniature Pinschers

The size of the Min Pin is right in their name. But even though they’re only 8-10 pounds, these miniature pooches have all the gusto and fearlessness of their larger canine cousins! For anyone who wants the essence of a big dog in a compact canine, this could be your breed.
