While celebrities often get a lot of flak for all the not-so-good things they do, many stars are doing the right thing when it comes to pet adoption and we want to give them the recognition they deserve! So, in honor of National Adopt a Dog Month and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, here are celebs who rescued their dogs.
#1 – Nikki Reed
Reed and Ian Somerhalder not only have rescued dogs, but also a horse! Somerhalder recently accepted the “Dog’s Best Friend Award” from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
#2 – Kaley Cuoco
Cuoco is frequently adopting dogs and is an outspoken advocate for animal adoption!
#3 – Hilary Swank
She has three rescue dogs that bring her endless joy, Swank says. Rumi, Kai, and Georgie fill up her Instagram.
#4 – Jake Gyllenhaal
As if this guy need to be any more attractive….he fell in love with Atticus his rescue dog when he saw him at an LA shelter years ago. Love at first, what a lucky dog! He also adopted another dog, Boo, equally luckily to be owned by the star. And don’t listen to this Twitter user, we think your dog looks quite happy in your arms!
#5 – Priyanka Chopra and Joe Jonas
The Jonas family loves their furry family members, but they soon realized there was room in their hearts for yet another lovable dog. So, they recently introduced a third rescue pup, and he’s so precious! He has the cutest ears and the most unique eyes. And best of all, his name is Panda!
#6 – Miranda Lambert
She has rescued 7 dogs of her own, plus helps dozens more through her work with MuttNation Foundation. Her dogs even have their own house – complete with heat, A/C, dog beds and a fence.
#7 – Ryan Reynolds
Another star that just keeps giving us reasons to love him even more, Reynolds adopted his dog, Baxter.
#8 – James Van Der Beek
Actor and writer James Van Der Beek, who you may recognize from Dawson’s Creek or more recently Dancing with the Stars, and wife Kimberly are grateful for the opportunity to add another rescue pup to their family. Theo, their newest addition, is an adorable, three-year-old, purebred Siberian Husky who was found as a stray in Louisiana.
#9 – Jane Lynch
Lynch has adopted several furkids and is a spokesperson for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
#10 – Kristen Bell
Aside from adopting her dogs Lola and Mr. Shakes (who was due to be euthanized the next day), Bell has also been in a PetSmart Charities video.
#11 – Denise Richards
Richards has a house full of pups and has helped promote the work of North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) in the past.
#12 – Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel adopted two sibling pups, because she couldn’t bear to separate siblings. What a sweetheart and just one more reason to love her!
