Swampy the bully mix is all dressed up for Saint Patrick’s Day, but with nowhere to go. At 15-years-old, finding a forever home is hard. Poor Swampy already lost two loving families through no fault of his own, and now he’s down on his luck. But maybe the luck of the Irish will finally be on his side.

The St. Tammany Parish Animal Shelter in Louisiana is working hard to find a forever home for Swampy. They describe him as a “southern gentleman” who just needs a nice place to live out the rest of his life. And due to his age, there’s no time to waste!

A Dog Looking for Luck

Swampy lived most of his life with a human who loved him. But that human passed away, leaving the senior pup all alone. A homeless person then took Swampy under their wing, but had to surrender the pup when they could no longer care for him.

Swampy is a loving pup who lost two amazing families without knowing why. Due to circumstances out of his control, he ended up alone, but shelter staff want to help ease that loneliness. For the month of March, they dressed up their adoptable dogs in Saint Patrick’s Day outfits and took adorable photos of them. They hope Swampy’s festive green attire will give him a little more luck this holiday, especially given that he’s a Pit Bull breed.

“This southern gentleman is appropriately named for the “Swampy” bayou he was born and raised in. Whilst his name might be unique, bully breed mixes like himself might as well be a ‘dime a dozen’ in Louisiana shelters. They sit and wait for months on end.. invisible, unwanted, unloved, not because of their actions but because of their looks,” the shelter wrote.

Will You Help Swampy Find a Family?

Time is of the essence for senior dogs like Swampy, especially at the age of 15. Being older, he’s very laid-back and enjoys slow walks with humans. He’s potty-trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and even knows some commands. Also, he would prefer to be the only dog in a home.

“Swampy spends his days sleeping quietly on the raised bed allocated to his kennel run. With eyes closed, he dreams of a place far from the shelter – a kind, warm home with someone to love. His favorite item is his red fluffy blanket – he tells us he would like one of those in his new home, please (we can give you one)!” the shelter wrote.

Throughout the month of March, the shelter is highlighting harder to adopt animals like Swampy. They’re also offering 50% off adoption fees and a tote bag with each adoption, which includes a green bandana, a feeding bowl, toys, and treats.
