Hills science K/D along with a homemade diet of pork, rice, sweet potatoes, apples, green beans, blueberries and pumpkin. Under the direction of our kidney specialist. Along with a phos binder and epakitin, probiotics and omega 3 fish oil. He was diagnosed at 11 months at a level 3 and we were able to maintain his numbers until he was 3 1/2 when they just gave out and he passed away at home.

We used to give our Rocky, Royal Canin Hepatic. He liked it and he lived for 3 years after the kidney issue started. He also got Omega 3.

Home cook for him rotisserie chickens are quite reasonable remove the skin white meat dark meat you can make him salmon green beans carrots sweet potatoes canned pumpkin there are many options and it’s a lot cheaper than the prescription dog food although you might want to get a bag just to throw in a little bit of crunch feed him according to body weight which you can talk to the vet about that’s what we’re doing for our girl she’s a pitbull with elevated levels

We had our boy on Hills. After a few years found he could no longer tolerate and start diarrhea. Started to home cook with rice and chicken. Found his allergies disappeared. But kidneys started to get worse. He now gets about 30% canin royal kidney and 70% other. Other consists of; brown rice, organic pumpkin puree, beats, apples, blueberries, strawberries, red pepper, broccoli, omega 3 oil, probiotics and a powder mixture (make into a gravy) with peptides and vitamins. His joints are better, coat looks great, more energy and kidney levels have improved. Removed meat from his diet.

we fed purina dry and can kidney food. she was also on prednisone. I tried homemade but couldn’t get her to eat it. tried to lower the prednisone but then she would quit eating… she was 5 when we found out and 7 when we lost her…. wish you the best

I suggest you make it for your pup beef chicken veggies pumpkin sweet potato any combo that your pup likes I also add oatmeal for a grain. Good luck!

You can cook. Research homemade kidney diet. You need foods with low phosphorus. If I remember what I made for mine It was sticky rice, egg whites, boiled chopped beef and butter. I think I also gave her CoQ10 also.

Kidney diets need to be low protein, low sodium and low phosphates…my girl was diagnosed last year and put Royal Canin renal support and mobility…she does great on it, and has actually seen her kidney values reverse back to almost normal levels…she’ll be 9 in a few months and is going strong!

A good quality raw food I think is best!! We have always fed ours raw but sourced quality! Our rotties loved it, we now have frenchies and have continued with it and they also love it!! After watching a tv programs about supermarket and dried food we switched immediately!! That was a few years ago. All too often dogs are sick with awful diseases. We lost all 4 of our rotties to cancer.. if you ask me I think it all stems from the vaccines we are pressured to give our dogs.. don’t shoot me and no I’m not a conspiracy theorist!! It’s just my opinion…

My girl (Gabby) passed in august 22 of kidney disease. I tried Hills KD can. Different flavors and textures. She liked the Stew one better than the regular Finally she just gave up fighting but she’s fought long and hard. She was my BFF. It took her from 136 to 67 lbs. horrible. She let me know when she was tired of fighting and we helped her pass at home. We had her on Cerenia and Fortiflora daily. My heart goes out to you. Wish the best for you and your pup.
