Something I’ve learned as a general…chicken can be a significant allergy in dogs; and it can develop in older dogs. Try a limited ingredient diet….Merrill salmon & brown rice or Salmon & Sweet potato…

I have had around 13 Basset Hounds and I have learned that they do not do well with high protein food. Just a well balanced diet. My last Basset with stomach issues did the best on Pedigree in yellow bag, but not with extra protein. Every dog is different The key component is finding out why it’s sensative to foods if possible. Best wishes to your dog.

I fed my 16.5 yr old Bassett Costco’s Kirkland Salmon and Sweet Potato kibble for years. My Yorkie preferred it over her salmon and sweet potato Nutrish kibble or Royal Canin, so I just let her keep eating his. She is now 11 and healthy as can be.

Beat up an egg, 55 seconds in the microwave, cool 2 minutes and serve. My 14 year old dog, Abby, has one every morning and people think she’s 3! (She also eats wet dog food and kibble, but she really bloomed with the daily egg!)

Mix I cup boiled, diced, boneless skinless chicken breast with 1.5 cups cooked white rice and 1.5 cups Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat food, and about 3/4 cup steamed mixed veggies. Use no sodium or spices. Cook the rice in the water left from boiling the chicken breasts. Our 12 year old basset developed pancreatitis and this diet is recommend by our vet. (The Royal Canin is only available with a prescription.) He eagerly eats this entire mixture each day and is feeling great now.

My Shirlee had a very delicate constitution. I had tried all the vet recommended or ‘science based’ foods and they either didn’t help or Miss Prissy wouldn’t eat it. One night in desperation, I threw some Ken L Ration chewy burger at her and not only did she love it, but no more tummy problems. I was worried though, that it was nutritional enough, and more than one vet said it was perfectly okay. She thrived for another 14 years on it, so I guess so.
