We’ve summarized the best responses below. Always remember to check with your veterinarian before making changes that affect your Maltese’ health. iHeartDogs is reader supported, so some of the links below may be paid affiliate links at no additional cost to you.

20 Best Foods for a Maltese with a Sensitive Tummy

Boiled boneless skinless chicken breasts…..lightly salted using chicken broth for the boil. Simmer 30 min. Cut each breast into 3-4 pieces and leave in broth so they don’t dry out until you use them up….1 cut up piece/ meal. For tummy upsets this is very settling. Binkie has never had dog food and his vet says he’s a very healthy 13 yr old boy!

Vet can prescribe anything appropriate but we found Hills low-fat ID prescription diet very good and really great for sensitive tummy. It comes in canned and kibble formulas. We always got regular not stew formula when on the KD diet later in life. It isn’t so rich. We always went by vet’s recommendation. At one point, she was also on Purina Pro Plan hydrolyzed diet. That was good also. Wishing you well.

Not a food recommendation, but would HIGHLY recommend this probiotic chew from Amazon. My dog thinks they are a treat and it solidified her poop in about 3 days.

My dog had a very sensitive stomach and the only food that works for her is Eukunuba Sensitive Digestion. It’s chicken and rice based plus all of the nutrients she needs.

My Bichon/poodle had stomach issues, after doing some research found an easy recipe that I make in the crockpot and serve to him and my little Maltese girls. They love it!! Ground chicken, rice, peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, green beans. One crock lasts a week, we freeze it in 1 cup servings and heat lightly. We add a little dry food and vitamin supplement each day.

Hypoallergenic dog food, I use Royal canin dry and encore chicken with rice wet food, for my Maltese, who sometimes will vomit acid bile.

Hill’s Science Diet for sensitive skin & stomach. It’s not terribly expensive, they have kibble and wet food, and you can get it from PetSmart and places like that, if you happen to be the type of person that wants to take care of your baby but also be able to feed the humans in your household.

We use Hill’s Science for sensitive skin and stomach. Our girl won’t eat pumpkin. Chicken and rice are good, but not for long term. The vet can also prescribe the bland food diet for Hill’s … made a big difference for us. Hope your fur baby feels better!

When Tammy’s stomach is upset, I cook some rice & in a pot slowly cook diced chicken. When cool put some rice, chicken & some of the chicken water in her bowl, she loves it & picks up well.

Suggestion only. Both our poodles had sensitive tummys and passed gas more than we cared for. Finally went to a different Vet. She placed both on Royal Canin Veterinary Diet – Best Prescription Dog Food…and never had any issues. We would pickup a case of moist can food and a large bag dry food. Good luck..
