20 Best Hypoallergenic Shampoos for Pug’s with Itchy/Sensitive Skin

We have tried changing dog food and the Vet did give our pug an antibiotic. It worked well for awhile. We were using oatmeal shampoo, but a groomer told us not to. It really is a lot of trial and error finding what works for each pug.

Usually oatmeal based shampoos are great for pugs. Thats what I’ve always used, my first girl had crazy allergies

Make sure you wash agains the grain of the fur. Get all the way to the skin. And between the toes and pads on the feet. Rinse well. Again all the way to the skin. We have a hand held shower head. That worked great. I also used to put cotton in my pugs ears to help keep water out.

No matter which shampoo, always finish with a 50/50 water and white distilled vinegar!!! That will clarify the skin and coat and STOP the irritation!!!

What ever brand or type you use. Make sure you get all the soap rinsed out of the coat. any residue will dry the skin more. You may also want to contact your vet for an allergy test. My daughters dog is allergic to chicken and was having dry, flaky, itchy skin problems. All because of chicken.

I use a shampoo from scentsy honey and chamomile for both my pugs they love it and don’t scratch ever. There are a few different scents you can get, most of my customers have switched, from what they were using

I’d definitely look into changing the diet as that is probably main reason they itch. A lot of dogs are allergic to chicken. We had to change our Pugs diet due to him being overweight and he’s now fed raw tripe and meat with vegetables. No kibble at all. His fur is lovely and soft and he doesn’t itch. We only bath him twice a year at the most but brush him regularly to get out all the loose fur.

My dog has to get cytopoint shots every 2-3 months or keep them on apoquel. Most likely shampoos will not help them. Please DO NOT let your dog suffer with itching. Find out what is going on, and find out best treatment option for them. I saved my pug that went through years of torture from skin conditions that were left untreated.

Vet put my pug on apoquel . It has worked wonders . It’s a little pricey but worth it . My baby has stopped itching, he smells better and his hair is thicker and falls out less .

A nice mild oatmeal shampoo, that’s what we use on our son’s dog, she had really itchy skin and it helps her a lot. Alpoquil, is also good.

I would recommend this. You can get it at your vets office or amazon. We tell all our patients(vet tech) to use this for skin issues.
