When it comes to swimming, certain dog breeds just can’t wait to get in the water. Although all dogs are individuals, there are some breeds that were created with the purpose of being in lakes and oceans and they still maintain their love of water today. One of the most popular dog breeds in the world, the Labrador Retriever was bred for hunting and retrieving game in water and on shore. Because of this, the breed possesses an affinity for water and is a strong, natural swimmer. They are active and intelligent dogs, gentle enough to work as service dogs and guide dogs and make excellent family companions.

#2 – Newfoundland

Although their size may appear imposing, Newfoundlands are known for being very sweet and make a great choice for families with children.

#3 – Chesapeake Bay Retriever
