Gorgeous actress, Kate Upton, supports homeless dogs. Her fiance, Detroit Tigers star pitcher, Justin Verlander, has a passion for helping veterans cope with PTSD.
Together, they have combined their efforts into one epic event to benefit both worthy causes. Their third annual Grand Slam Adoption event at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida was held this weekend.
The event included giveaways, games, face painting and food. Upton was on-hand to sign autographs and take photos with fans – as well as the adoptable pups from a local non-profit rescue group.
The proceeds from the event’s food sales will benefit the dogs as well as Verlander’s Wins for Warriors Foundation.
“Every year, the event gets bigger,” Upton said. “It’s very exciting to see how far it’s come and see how the event grows.”
Verlander was pitching against the Florida Marlins, and unable to attend the event. Upton says she resisted the urge to adopt one of the homeless pups showcased at the Grand Slam event.
“I always want to,” she said. “Our dogs are family to both of us. With both of our busy traveling schedules, from hotels to homes, they’re always with us.”
