You’ve surely heard a dog howl — but nothing quite like this.
On the June 22 episode of America’s Got Talent, Casper the Chihuahua made his television debut singing his own version of “All By Myself” by Celine Dion with his mom, Pam. The judges were starstruck by the adorable performance, giving the dog raving reviews and passing him onto the next round of the hit TV show.
Dressed in a red harness and yellow bow tie, Casper entered the stage in his mom’s arms as they introduced themselves to the judges. The judges, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara, seemed skeptical of the dog’s talent at first — but it didn’t take long for them to be captivated by his performance.
As Pam sang the chorus of the song, Casper let out some amazing howls and truly immersed himself in the performance. His soulful yelps had the audience roaring with laughter, as well as plenty of “aww”s.
Following the performance, Casper and Pam won four “yes” votes from the judges, who were quite amazed by the tiny pooch’s vocal skills.
“I think that was one of the most adorable things I have seen in a long time,” Vergara said after the performance. “I want to see you more. I want to see you again.”
Cowell also had a rave review, which was surprising considering his often critical feedback to performers.
“[At first] I thought he was screaming, and then amazingly he did actually start to sing,” Cowell said. “I mean, that is unbelievable, genuinely.”
While Casper may have a long way to go before he lands a record deal, both the judges and audience were impressed by his performance. This may not be the first singing dog to be on the show, but he just may be the best.
While many dogs enjoy barking, it takes a special type of talent to be able to hit the notes that Casper did. After that performance, there’s no telling what song he will be singing next.
Although Casper’s performance was exhilarating, this isn’t the first time the world has seen a musically talented dog. Maple, a rescue dog from New England, grew to stardom online after playing the drums along with her dad’s acoustic guitar songs.
Casper’s performance was absolutely heart-felt — and even Mandel could feel the emotion behind his howling tune.
“It was so surprising,” Mandel said. “Even that last note that Casper hit was so moving and emotional.
