A Texas couple was shocked to discover their beloved pup hiding in their luggage as they checked in for a flight to Vegas. After their bag was flagged for being six pounds overweight, a quick check of the luggage revealed an unexpected face.

Kristi and Jared Owens arrived at the Lubbock Airport to set off on a much-needed vacation. As they began the check-in process before boarding their flight to Vegas, they were informed that one of their bags was 6 pounds overweight.

In an effort to redistribute some of the weight, the couple opened the suitcase in question. Nobody was expecting what came next.

As Kristi unzipped the suitcase, a tiny face was spotted peeking out of Jared’s boot. Out jumped their beloved Chihuahua named Icky, who appears to have snuck into the luggage undetected before leaving their home.

The couple immediately froze, absolutely shocked by the fact that their furry friend got herself into this situation. Kristi says she was completely out of sight when she closed the suitcase and had no idea that her sweet pup was in tow the entire time. She never made a peep throughout the ride to the airport.

“Really quickly, we are like, oh, we have got to rearrange some stuff. She opens it up, and literally, there’s our dog coming out of my boot, coming out of my boot with her head popping up.” – Jared Owens

Jared and Kristi explained how much of a natural burrower Icky is, and that she will snuggle into blankets or clothes at every given chance. They say they often find her burrowing into their laundry, revealing what could have led up to this incredible moment.

Kristi mentions that while packing for the trip, she left her suitcase unattended for a few hours. Once they were all packed and ready to go, she closed the suitcase and set off on their adventure. Icky must have snuck into the suitcase and burrowed into her clothing during this timeframe.

“We were dumbfounded and flat shocked and embarrassed, to be honest. She loves to burrow in our laundry baskets, closet, blankets, wherever she can get nice, warm and comfy, and on that day, I guess she chose our suitcase we had left open with clothes in it for hours.” – Kristi Owens

The overweight luggage alert may have saved Icky’s life, as a prolonged period of being trapped in a suitcase could have ended tragically for the tiny pup. Thankfully for everyone involved, Icky was completely unharmed.

Once the couple got past the initial shock of seeing their dog emerge from their luggage, they were faced with the dilemma of what to do next. They had a flight to catch, and they didn’t plan on bringing their pup to Vegas!

“You know it’s going to be an epic trip to Vegas when you get to the airport to check your bags….6lbs over weight, and out pops a chihuahua from your boot!! Unreal! Let the shenanigans begin!! Shout out to Cathy with #southwestairlines for her awesome customer service!! She offered to watch Icky until we got back!! Let’s go!!” – Jared Owens

An airport employee named Cathy was so stunned by the situation that she offered to watch Icky while the couple set off to their gate. The Owenses were able to enlist a friend to come pick up their beloved pup, and take her back to the comfort of her home.

They are now back from their vacation and back to the silly pup that pulled off such an astonishing escape. We are so glad that Icky made it through this ordeal unharmed, and that the staff at the airport was so understanding throughout the process.
