The COVID-19 pandemic has made life more difficult for humans and animals all over the world. In Louisiana, the amount of dogs in kill shelters is increasing. With minimal funds and overcrowded kennels, many of these locations need to make the difficult decision to euthanize perfectly healthy dogs.

Luckily, iHeartDogs’ Second Chance Movement program is working hard to save these at-risk pups. On December 31st, 2020, iHeartDogs will sponsor a flight of up to 100 dogs from Louisiana to no-kill shelters and rescues in Michigan. Nonprofit Wings of Rescue will be flying the New Beginning Pet Rescue Flight to safety just in time for the new year. One of the many dogs who will benefit from this flight is Cocoa Mellon.

Meet Cocoa Mellon!

Cocoa Mellon is a big sweetheart who was brought to the Jefferson Parish animal shelter in Louisiana. She has a beautiful white coat with a brown spot around one of her hopeful eyes. Cocoa Mellon and her sister Coffee Bean were living the dream for a while, but then COVID-19 hit and their world was turned upside down.

These sweet sisters lost their mom to the coronavirus. Sadly, they had no other human family to care for them, so they were sent to a shelter. Cocoa Mellon was scared and alone, but she tried her best to comfort her sister, and her sister did the same for her in return. They were left wondering if they would ever find a loving home again. Since Louisiana shelters are so overcrowded, their time was limited.

But now, Cocoa Mellon, her sister, and many other lucky pups are getting another chance at life. Just before the new year, they will hop onto a transport that will lead them to new opportunities. In Michigan, they’re likely to get adopted much, much faster.

Purchases from iHeartDogs’ Second Chance Movement Collection can help fly these pups to safety. Whenever a product is bought, “miles” are donated to GreaterGood.org, our charity partner. These miles help transport at-risk dogs to a new beginning. Every purchase could help more dogs like Cocoa Mellon get the comfortable life they deserve. Just imagine Cocoa Mellon’s sweet face when she finally finds a forever home!
