The sweet puppy, now named Clementine, has a deformed paw. Usually dogs like this do not make it out of a shelter, but lucky for Clementine Love Leo Rescue, a small Los Angeles based rescue, came to her aid as soon as they heard her story.

“She’s very brave,” says Sasha Abelson, president and founder of Love Leo Rescue. “Clementine was dumped by her owners just when she needed them most. You can see the fear in her eyes, but she doesn’t hold a grudge. Despite her rough start, she’s an incredibly sweet and loving little puppy.” They took her to Dr. Olds at the VCA Brentwood Animal Hospital who performed surgery on her paw to fix it. She will not lose her paw. “Our orthopedic specialist said he would NOT amputate,” the rescue said on their Facebook page. “He has performed this surgery several times. They straighten the leg – put a pin in it and let it fuse in the correct position. Pin will come out in 8 weeks – she will be spayed and the extra toe will be amputated.” She came out of surgery fine and is now recovering well.

Clementine will be up for adoption after her second surgery, once she has fully recuperated. On their Facebook page, the rescue says: “She has a foster and an application that came in for her this morning. She needs 8 weeks of recovery so she will need to stay local until the pin comes out of her leg and she is spayed.” Contact them to find out if they are still taking applications.

Here’s to a speedy recovery little Clementine – we are all pulling for you!
