A feral dog, named Ella, made her way onto a farm and gave birth to seven puppies. All of the puppies found homes. One puppy named Maggie ended up as a foster-fail with Taylor, a volunteer with Atlas Animal Rescue.

Taylor had inquired about Mama Ella and was told she was safe and sound with a family. Taylor was relieved. But soon that relief turned into turmoil. Ella was in fact surrendered by her new family to the shelter and because she’s feral, she ended up at the top of the euthanasia list.

Could this selfless foster mom step in and help? Taylor knew Ella deserved a chance at happiness, just like her puppies. She drove to the shelter to rescue Ella. Taylor brought her home and kept her isolated from Maggie and her other dog. She had to slowly acclimate Ella because she was feral and had sadly shut down.

The mama dog was kept in a crate the first few days if the other two dogs were running about– and vice versa. Amazingly, Maggie responded to Ella and would lay with her outside the crate. It was as if Maggie remembered her mother! And then, if Maggie was placed inside the crate, Ella did the same thing!

Taylor is uncertain if the dogs knew for sure that Ella is Maggie’s mom but the heart never forgets (nor do their noses!) What do you think? Please let us know in the comment section. Thanks to fosters like Taylor, homeless dogs are finding loving forever homes. Consider becoming a foster today!
