What do you think of when you think of the word “shelter”? Just the word sounds so much like “sanctuary.” A place to rest. But shelter life isn’t always so peaceful. With overcrowding and lack of funding plaguing shelters all over the world, dogs like Pongo struggle to survive, even when they’re supposed to be safe. Friends with Four Paws shared Pongo’s story with iHeartDogs – and how you helped give him a happily-ever-after.

“Pongo was set to be euthanized at a local shelter simply for having an upper respiratory infection, which in turn he had obtained while being at the shelter! It took a few weeks for him to get past it once he joined the program.”

Friends with Four Paws couldn’t let Pongo lose his life over something so trivial. The shelter wasn’t equipped to care for Pongo in his time of need, but FwFP has your support through Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program. Through GOODS, they receive donations of food and supplies, which allows them to use their funds for other things – like medical care for Pongo. Today, he’s a much healthier, happier boy!

“Pongo enjoyed his perfectly sized bark bed for his 63-pound self while he was in foster care! The bed became his happy place. He was even willing to share it with his human foster sister! A bonus to the beds is they each come with a squeaky toy. Most of our dogs will never say no to a new toy!”

“For the past several months, thanks to all of the bed donations, we have not had a single dog need to go without a soft cozy bed! Sometimes things that are not ‘essential ‘ we simply can’t afford to purchase funds into – like lots of super cozy beds!
