When most people hear horror stories of wild animals hunting pets, they often assume it’ll never happen to them. The chances are so rare that it’s not even a worry in most pet parents’ minds. Yet, those who have experienced these horrific situations always wish they would’ve been careful sooner.

A family recently witnessed a bald eagle scoop up their beloved Yorkie puppy. But to their surprise, the puppy returned home instead of becoming the bird’s lunch. People are calling it a miracle!

A Pet Parent’s Worst Nightmare

The horrific moment the dog was captured got caught on the family’s doorbell camera. Coco, an 8-month-old Yorkie, was outside the family’s home without a leash. Suddenly, she started screaming as a bald eagle swooped toward her and scooped her up in its talons.

The bald eagle carried the Yorkie away from the camera, but the tiny dog continued to scream in pain the entire time. After a few seconds, the dog ran back into the frame as she continued to scream. The Yorkie raced back to the front door in a panic.

At some point, the family’s daughter noticed the commotion and looked out the window. When she saw the eagle holding her family’s furry friend, she screamed too. By the time she stepped outside, the Yorkie ran back to the house and into her arms.

“It was really scary. We didn’t know it was that bad until we went back and looked at my doorbell camera,”  said Justin Dudoward, Coco’s human.

Yorkie Miraculously Survives

At first, it seemed like Coco had gotten away with nothing more than a few scratches. Yet, Dudoward later noticed that the poor pup had a laceration on her stomach, and he said part of her intestines was showing. So, the family rushed her to the hospital.

After a vet inspection and surgery, Coco is doing better than ever. In only a few days, she was already acting like nothing out of the ordinary happened to her. But she’ll be resting and taking it easy while she recovers.

Dudoward said that from now on, they will only take the little dog out on a leash rather than letting her outside unsupervised. Eagle attacks like this are rare, but it’s always a good idea to be cautious with your dog’s safety. Coco is lucky to be alive!
