With so many harsh chemical products on the market, a lot of dog owners are concerned with the unnatural poisons they’re advised to either put on their dog’s skin or feed to them. So for those looking to go a more natural route, you’ll be happy to find that we’ve found a very easy, very safe, natural flea and tick repellent that can be made cheaply from your home.

Summer brings many wonderful things; warm weather, summer showers, beautiful flowers, long days and cozy nights. But it also brings some pests that we don’t particularly love dealing with, including fleas and ticks. These insects are not only the cause of many allergic reactions in our dogs, they can transmit deadly diseases.

The use of apple cider vinegar for dogs has proven to have many benefits to our canine companions and owners have discovered that it makes an excellent natural flea and tick repellent. The acidic flavor is very undesirable to these blood-sucking pests so regularly spraying an ACV solution on your pet will keep them away. Even better, ACV is also a natural anti-itch relief so it not only soothes your pet’s skin, it keeps fleas and ticks away.

If you’re ready to make your own ACV natural flea and tick repellent, follow these easy steps!

Step #1:

Non-diluted ACV on your dog’s skin might actually cause more irritation than benefit, so it’s important to dilute your ACV solution properly. Mix 2 cups of ACV and 2 cups of warm water. This creates a solution that’s safe, effective and lacks the potent vinegar smell. Feel free to add 2-3 drops of lavender or cedar oils to give a nice scent that is also a natural flea and tick repellent.

Step #2:

Put this solution in a spray bottle and completely spray your dog, making sure that you get the solution down to your dog’s skin. Be sure to keep it out of their eyes, ears, nose and mouth, though. They don’t have to be soaking wet, however, because the scent will go a long way to repelling the nasty fleas and ticks. Simply spray your pooch any time you bathe them, as this solution is safe enough to use regularly without worry of any chemical toxins!

Bonus Tip:

If you want to make your own flea shampoo, simply mix half this solution with 1 ounce of Castille soap. 1 cup of ACV, 1 cup of warm water and the 1 ounce of Castille soap will make a soothing, gentle lather that you can wash your pup in as needed. Followed up with the ACV spray, you’ll have your own natural flea and tick repellent combo all summer!
