New Hotel Chain Will Cater To Guests With Dogs

| Published on November 12, 2017

Canopy by Hilton is a new boutique hotel chain which just announced that all of its North American locations will offer “Paws in the Neighborhood,” a new dog-friendly check-in policy.

Canopy partnered with Planet Dog, which makes environmentally-friendly pet products, to create the Paws in the Neighborhood welcome kit, which includes a cinch pack, a Planet Dog Orbee ball, a house-made or locally-sourced dog treat, a dispenser with pickup bags, and a guide that highlights neighborhood parks, vets, groomers, pet supply stores, and dog-friendly restaurants.

Up to 2 dogs weighing 75 pounds or less will be allowed to stay with their owners for a non-refundable pet fee of $50. The “Just Right” guest rooms will be prepared in advance to include a dog bed along with food and water bowls. Collars and leashes will be available on loan, and guests receive 20 percent off purchases from Planet Dog.

Gary Steffen, global head of Canopy by Hilton, told Travel + Leisure:

“We’ve found that in recent years, more people are choosing to travel with their dogs than ever before and why not? Dogs are part of the family and travelers consider their needs as much as their own when choosing a place to stay.”

Canopy by Hilton’s first American location (and second overall) is open in the Wharf district of Washington, D.C. The first location is located in Reykjavik, Iceland, and upcoming locations are planned for Rockville, Maryland; Portland, Oregon; Dallas and San Antonio, Texas; Ithaca, New York; London, England; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Atlanta, Georgia; Toronto, Canada; West Palm Beach, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; Baltimore, Maryland; Columbus, Ohio; and Hangzhou, China.
