Pit Bull Burn Survivor Adopted By The Firefighter Who Saved Him; Now, He’s A Fire Safety Dog!

| Published on March 7, 2016

Jake was only three weeks old when he was rescued from a burning shed.

“I noticed there was some smoke coming from my neighbor’s yard,” firefighter Bill Lindler said in an interview with Bored Panda. “The residents were yelling their puppy was in the building. I ran back into my house, grabbed some firefighting gear, and ran across the street.”

Luckily, the quick-thinking Lindler was able to save the pit bull puppy–but he still got badly burned. The scorches covered over three-quarters of Jake’s body, and unable to pay for the medical bills, his family ended up abandoning him at the vet.

When Lindler was informed that the Pittie puppy needed a new home, the firefighter and his family knew that he belonged with them.

As he recovered, Jake was able to hang out with his dad and the crew at the Hanahan Fire Department in South Carolina, where Lindler works. Everyone fell in love with him…

And now, one-year-old Jake is officially part of the team!

Firefighter Lindler initially wanted to certify the pup to be a therapy dog for children who are burn survivors. However, the fire-savvy dog has embarked on a new profession: to be an Arson Detection Dog! He is currently in training.

Jake still gets to hang out with children, though. He visits schools to teach them all about fire safety.

Way to go, Jake and Firefighter Lindler! What an amazing way to turn a bad situation into an opportunity for good.
