Popular Dog Walking Service Named Prime Suspect When This Couple’s Pooch Went Missing

Just a few weeks ago, Sophie and Max Troper of New York City hired a popular dog walking service for Benny, their Shih Tzu-York mix. But then, the unthinkable happened. Benny went missing. Poof. Without a trace. Fortunately, there was only one suspect. Only one person who had access to their apartment. But let this serve as a warning to all of us. Before you decide to leave your cherished pup with anyone, you may want to think twice.

Who Took Benny?

Benny the “Shorkie” has quite the social media following. More than 6500 follow this beloved New York City pup on Instagram. That following helped quickly spread his story.

In early June, Benny went missing from his Battery Park home. His humans, Sophie and Max, suspected a Wag! dog walker from the app they used to take Benny out. Only dog walkers had a key to access to the apartment. The kidnapper was supposedly vetted by Wag!, a company the dog lovers thought they could trust. Thankfully, New York’s finest made quick work of this case, but what if…

The police investigation turned up similar results. They arrested the Wag! dog walker, Christian Madriaga, on burglary charges.

Benny Goes Home

During the search for the dog, Wag! offered their full support. In a statement, Wag! said they hired a private investigator who worked with Benny’s parents and local law enforcement during this investigation. Also, they provided a monetary reward for the safe return of Benny.

Eventually, authorities found Benny. Hooray! His parents took to social media to thank the NYPD for their help.

We love a happy ending!
