It was a late, quiet night when Kaitlyn, a rescuer from Adams County Pet Rescue in Othello, Washington, heard something strange. The unsettling cries pierced through the silence, immediately grabbing her attention. Though the sounds didn’t sound human, Kaitlyn’s instincts kicked in. She had to find out what—or who—was making such heartbreaking noises. The cries soon led Kaitlyn to a surprising discovery under her car. When she crouched down to investigate, two frightened, gleaming eyes stared back at her. A terrified dog had curled up beneath the vehicle, paralyzed with fear and refusing to move.
Kaitlyn quickly realized this wouldn’t be a straightforward rescue. As soon as she approached, the pup bolted, darting out from under the car. Barefoot, having lost her sandals in the chase, Kaitlyn sprinted after the frightened dog as it ran in circles around her property. The pup was understandably scared, yet something kept her close. Perhaps the safety of the fenced yard gave her some comfort in such a frightening situation.
Recognizing she couldn’t do this alone, Kaitlyn called for help. With a small team of rescuers working together, they carefully cornered the pup, ensuring her safety without causing further distress. Kaitlyn’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed—her determination and quick thinking saved the night.
“When Kaitlyn calls at 11 p.m., I always know it’s something interesting happening, and I better answer. When she’s breathless, I know it’s going to be something real exciting, and of course, it was,” Adams County Pet Rescue shared in a Facebook post.
The pup, later named Primavera, was taken to the rescue facility, where she finally had a safe place to rest. Though she was still recovering from her ordeal, Primavera began to warm up to her caregivers much faster than expected. With kindness and patience, the team at ACPR helped her come out of her shell.
Primavera soon transitioned into a foster home with Tammy, where her transformation truly began. Surrounded by love and care, Primavera discovered what it meant to feel safe and adored. Tammy took the time to show her all the joys of life, including long walks and rides in her puppy buggy, which quickly became a favorite activity.
“She loves chasing balls, chew toys, carrying her stuffies around, and hanging out in the backyard. She’s very social now and wants to be where the people are,” ACPR wrote, describing Primavera’s progress.
Once a frightened dog hiding under a car, Primavera is now a playful, affectionate pup who loves meeting new friends—both human and canine. While she’s still learning and growing, one thing is clear: Primavera has blossomed into a confident and loving companion.
When the time comes, she will be ready to join her forever family, bringing joy and happiness to her new home. After everything she endured, Primavera’s future is finally as bright as it should be.
