Salem, now a retired racing dog, didn’t know what it was like to live in a home. She spent her first night in her foster home inside her crate, too afraid to eat or drink. She had been used for one purpose– to win. And now life was all about her happiness. If only she could learn to enjoy it.

By the next day, Salem ventured out of her crate and explored the apartment but the pup still didn’t understand her new world. After 159 races, being a pet was outside her wheelhouse. Soon, Salem was confident enough to at least eat a good meal and spend some time with her foster dad, Caleb. She quickly became Caleb’s shadow, following him from room to room. This led to separation anxiety but her foster dad worked on this behavior immediately!

A couple of weeks later, Salem began to trust her environment more. Her new world wasn’t as scary, especially with Caleb by her side. Her foster dad celebrated Salem’s confidence with fun adventures. The pup especially loved going to the pet store and looking at all the toys.
