A Texas dog dubbed “Valor” is living up to his name after surviving a euthanasia attempt at a Texas shelter. It is believed the dog woke up in a landfill after the lethal drug failed to end his life. Frightened, confused, and partially blind from the botched procedure, he was left to wander the streets alone.

Rescuers suspect Valor was one of many dogs scheduled to be euthanized on the same day and was accidentally given the wrong doseage before being discarded with the others.

“When he woke up he started running,” Lorrie Anding, foster coordinator for Cuz i Matter Animal Rescue in Pflugerville, TX told Inside Edition. “It took a local shelter four days to finally get their hands on him. He was petrified of leashes and people.”

Fearing the 3-year-old Blue Heeler mix would face euthanasia yet again, a shelter volunteer contacted Cuz i Matter to see if they would accept Valor into their rescue. After hearing his incredible story, a volunteer drove hundreds of miles to retrieve the courageous pooch and deliver him to a temporary foster home.

Valor’s foster mom, Kathryn Lippert says he is understandably timid, but slowly beginning to emerge from his shell with the help of an ample supply of cold cuts!

“I feel like anybody who adopts him, they’re the lucky ones,” Lippert told Fox 7. “Just from what I’ve seen in him opening up, he’s going to be a fantastic dog. I would love somebody who has other dogs that love to play, he loves to play and snuggle with other dogs.”

In addition to his impaired vision, Valor has been diagnosed with heartworm disease. His new friends at Cuz i Matter are working on raising funds for his treatment.
