Adrian Thompson, a volunteer for K9 Crusaders, will be spending his twelve days of Christmas in a dog kennel to raise awareness and much-needed financial donations for the charity.

The 48-year-old will transform from a financial adviser by day to a human shelter pet by night. He will share his kennel with a different adoptable pup each evening from now until December 28.

Thompson is the first volunteer for K9 Crusaders’ Twelve Dogs of Christmas fundraiser event. He will be locked inside a concrete kennel from 8 PM until 8 AM for the next twelve nights – even Christmas! Thompson will have the opportunity to go home during the day to shower, change and eat, but plans to spend every spare moment volunteering at the shelter.

His bed will be a sleeping bag on a concrete floor. His meals will be served from dog bowls – including a Christmas feast of Brussels sprouts and…more Brussels sprouts! Thompson is a bit concerned about his sciatic nerve pain acting up, but says the cause is well worth the pain.

Tonight Thompson will be shacking up with the first of his twelve adoptable canine roommates – Bertie the Jack Russell Terrier.

K9 Crusaders Dog Welfare is located in Bissoe, TRURO, Cornwall in the UK. Last year they were defrauded out of $125,000 by an unscrupulous criminal masquerading as an accountant. The shelter director, Sue Smith, and her band of dedicated volunteers, have been battling to keep the charity afloat ever since.

In a video promotion for the event, Smith said:

“Cornwall is a bit of a forgotten place in terms of dog welfare and we urgently need this kind of help and this kind of promotion and we really indebted to Adrian for giving up his Christmas and spending 12 whole nights here in the kennel helping us out.”
