Studies show that dogs react to certain music. Most dogs seem to prefer soft rock and reggae, but Oscar the special needs dog’s music taste is much more complicated than that. Oscar was rescued from Thailand after he was found wandering the streets with his back legs paralyzed.
Now, Oscar lives in the comfort of a loving home with two other rescue dogs. One of his favorite hobbies is listening to music, but he makes it clear which songs are his favorites. His human turned to social media to share Oscar’s adorable reactions to songs and to learn what all his favorite songs have in common.
Oscar’s Favorite Songs
In an adorable TikTok video, Oscar’s human revealed that he only gets excited when certain songs come on. Specifically, his favorite songs are “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber, “U Can’t Touch This ” by MC Hammer, and “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by The Verve.
To prove that Oscar prefers these songs, she played different music from each artist to compare his reactions. First, she played “Ghost” by Justin Bieber, but Oscar barely even lifted his head. Yet, when “Love Yourself” came on, he looked up and howled as if to sing along.
Oscar did not react to “2 Legit 2 Quit” by MC Hammer or “Lucky Man” by The Verve. However, he quickly howled when he heard “U Can’t Touch This” and “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” His human says that “Bitter Sweet Symphony” is his favorite song to sing along to.
At the end of the video, Oscar’s human encouraged people to suggest more songs in the comments. She also urged others to help her figure out what the pattern is.

What Do These Songs Have in Common?
Many comments pointed out that the three songs were all in E major, so that could be why Oscar likes them. However, his human decided that he needs to listen to more songs for a conclusion to be made. So, she compiled a list of songs from followers and created two more videos of Oscar listening to music.
Oscar’s results were a little surprising. He was uninterested in many of the songs that people thought he would like. Then, some of his favorites that he chose were “Piano Man” by Billy Joel, “All of Me” by John Legend, and “The Scientist” by Coldplay. Not all of his favorite songs are in E major, so people are still trying to decide where his selective musical taste comes from.
After making three videos, Oscar’s human decided to make him his own Spotify playlists. One playlist is for people to add song suggestions for Oscar to try. Another playlist contains all the songs that Oscar sang along to so far. After all, he made some pretty good choices.
