Fresh dog food delivery services are growing in popularity because they can cater specifically to your furry friend’s needs. Yet, like all pet food brands, they can have recalls now and then.
Spot & Tango recalled four batches of food on September 6th, 2022, after testing positive for Salmonella bacteria. They only announced the recall in private emails to their customers and didn’t confirm the recall to Dog Food Advisor when asked. Dangers of Salmonella
Salmonella-contaminated dog food can affect the animals eating it and the humans handling it. Humans are at a higher risk if they don’t wash their hands after touching pet food.
Dogs infected with Salmonella may experience diarrhea, vomiting, fever, lethargy, abdominal pain, or a decreased appetite. If your dog is experiencing unusual symptoms after eating the recalled products, contact your vet to be safe. Some infected dogs won’t show any symptoms, but they can still pass the bacteria to humans.
Humans that have interacted with the contaminated food may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or abdominal cramping. In extreme cases, it could lead to more serious conditions like arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, eye irritation, muscle pain, and urinary tract infections. If you experience any symptoms after touching the food, you should talk to a medical professional.
Luckily, Salmonella symptoms usually only last for a few days, but during that time, the infected person or pet is highly contagious. It’s safest to stay home if you think you’ve been infected.
What to Do with the Affected Products
If you have the recalled products, stop feeding them to your dog. Dispose of them and wash anything the food touched, such as bowls, measuring cups, counters, and storage containers. Always wash your hands after handling dog food.
You can get a refund for the food by filling out this form from Spot & Tango. If you have other questions or concerns about the products, you can email the company at firstname.lastname@example.org. The company doesn’t list a customer service number on its website.
