Swedish Vallhund

This lively breed looks strikingly similar to the Corgis, but there is no hereditary link to the two breeds. The Swedish Vallhund was bred for herding livestock. Whether the owner decides to train for competition herding or one of the many other canine sports available, the Vallhund would excel.

Irish Setter

No high energy breed list would be complete without mention of the Irish Setter. Bred for hunting, this particular breed could run for miles and wonder why the human stopped moving. The Irish Setter is highly recommended for an outgoing marathon runner who needs to be pushed a little harder.

Airedale (2)

Airedale Terrier

A fun loving breed to be sure, Airedale Terriers love to be with their people. Whether it is out on long walks, hiking or digging together in the garden, these energetic dogs would excel in canine competitive sports.

 Border Collie

Border Collie

Bred for herding, the Border Collie would be best described as a workaholic. They thrive best with a job and a full day of chores. Their highly intelligent nature will result in mischievous behavior if not worked every day.

English Springer Spaniel

Stalking quietly next to a hunter, an English Springer Spaniel waits for the signal to charge forward and flush game out of the brush. This was their original job. With urban sprawl, there isn’t much cause for flushing of prey out of the bushes around the park. This breed would excel in competition sports.

Belgian Malinois

Bearing a striking resemblance to the German Shepherd, the Malinois were also bred for herding. They are a breed of perfectionists, working hard at whatever task they have trained to do. Whether their job is as a service dog, guard dog, competitor, or companion, rest assured the Belgian Malinois would work incredibly hard to be the best.

Labrador Retriever

Ever played a game of fetch with a Labrador? Most Labs are relentless and unwavering in their ability to chase after a fuzzy green ball for hours on end. When their owners arm is nothing but a quivering pile of jelly, the Lab will dutifully bring their leash for a long romp around the mountains.

 Jack Russell Bark

Jack Russell Terrier

Don’t be fooled by the size of this dog. These little cheeky pups are as smart as they are energetic. Any human devoted enough to live with a Jack Russell will need to have the mental fortitude and the physical stamina to maintain. The Jack Russell excels in competitive sports.

 Aussie Cattle

Australian Cattle Dog

Another breed that could be considered a workaholic, the Australian Cattle Dog was used on expansive cattle ranches to herd the livestock. Although they’re still used for this purpose, many are also incredible family dogs that are devoted to their people. If the dog doesn’t live on a ranch, they can still train and compete in competitions to keep their minds active and energy levels normal.

Boxer

This incredibly adaptable breed could live in a house or an apartment as long as he has enough exercise. Take him for a run, a long hike, a scenic bike ride and the Boxer will have gotten his sillies out for the day. Once the dog has had his exercise levels met, it is up to the human to provide sufficient snuggles. Life isn’t all about exercise.
