There’s a Puppy in This Airplane Pilot’s Lap for One Unbelievably Touching Reason

It’s not every day you see a puppy in the cockpit of an airplane. But this is no ordinary plane, no ordinary flight, and no ordinary airline.

It’s mission isn’t to transport people from one place to another. It’s mission is to transport shelter pets from high risk, high kill shelters to no-kill shelters where they can be adopted by a loving family.

These all volunteer pilots are heroes in the truest sense of the word, donating their time and their airplanes to save countless lives.

Wings of Rescue, a 501(c)3 formed in 2013, utilizes this team of pilots that flies at risk pets across the country. To date, they’ve saved an astonishing 26,000 pets from being put down!

Why are these pets at risk in the first place? The answer is simple: it’s a problem of supply and demand.

In many areas, such as Southern California, the supply of shelter pets is high, leading to overcrowding in underfunded animal shelters. Because the demand for shelter pets is not high enough in these areas, euthanasia is very common. This is tragic, because these are perfectly good pets with many years of love left to give.
