Rescuers from the Missouri-based group, Project SNaP, were searching for a lost dog when they came across a pitiful backyard pup. The little Red Heeler was lying on a torn, filthy piece of canvas in a small pen attached to the rear of a rundown house.
The conditions were horrible, so the four rescuers set their sights on convincing the owner that his pup deserved better.
The Heeler was quite young and very friendly when approached, but the ladies from SNaP were concerned about her diet and health. The elderly owner was feeding what looked like dollar store food, tossed haphazardly on the ground. And at just over a year old, the pup had never seen a veterinarian or received any preventive care.
After three months of visiting the owner, he finally agreed that he was unable to give the dog the proper care or nutrition she needed. The pup’s new friends at SNaP named her Cara after the four women who worked to rescue her – Christina, Anne, Ruth and Angi.
Cara was immediately put into foster care and started on a diet of nutritious food donated by GreaterGood.org‘s Rescue Bank program which is funded by your iHeartDogs purchases.
Cara is now thriving in her foster home. She has been fully vaccinated, spayed and has tested negative for heartworm disease. Her friends at SNaP told iHeartDogs:
